Maypole Peep Cake

You know, I really should wait until May Day to post this, but it turned out so dang cute, I couldn't wait!

You will need:

Round cake

White buttercream frosting

Necco Wafer candies

Flaked coconut

Green Food coloring

Pink and Yellow Peep Bunnies

Icing flowers - Daisy

Mini cupcake liners

Toothpicks

Wooden skewer

Decorative paper straw

Ribbon

Silk flower

1.   Frost cake with white buttercream frosting.  Next use the Viva Towel method to smooth the frosting - this technique is absolutely brilliant and I learned it from my super sweet and genius cakey friend Melissa from MyCakeSchool.com - you can get her Viva Towel tutorial here.

Place a row of Necco wafers around the bottom of the cake.

2.  Place coconut in a plastic bag and add a few drops of green food coloring.  Shake until a nice shade of green.  Sprinkle on top of cake for grass.

Place pre-made icing daisies on top of grass.

3.  Cut a bunny Peep in half using kitchen shears.

Eat the bottom half.

4.  Push a toothpick in the middle of the mini cupcake liner.

5.  Place bunny Peep head on top of toothpick.

6.  For the maypole, place a wooden skewer in the middle of the cake. Place straw over the skewer. With a hot glue gun, attach 6 long pieces of ribbon and the flower to the top of the straw.  Place the Peep bunnies around the maypole.  Trim the ribbons to the same length around the cake.
